My Favorite Things about Fall
Fall used to be my favorite season because it’s cozy, colorful, and very rarely will the weather inconvenience you.
Recently, I’ve been enjoying Winter the most. I crave the juxtaposition of cozy life inside while its cold and uncomfortable outside. There’s nothing more inviting than being warm and happy inside while it’s dark, cold, and snowy outside. But I digress.
Where I live, we get summer and winter. Spring doesn’t exist and fall is extremely short most years. Since fall is fleeting, I feel like I need to enjoy it as long as I can.
Now that we are halfway through November, I thought I might share some of my favorite things about Fall.
Without further ado, what I love about fall in no particular order.
Bright, warm sunny days with colorful leaves
The days that are bright and sunny. I love it when the sunlight makes the leaves look warmer and casts a warm glow on everything. These are the days that make me want to go apple picking, buy a pumpkin, or take photos in the park.

Gray, cool, spooky days
The days that are foggy, dreary, and dark. I also love it when there is a cool cast over everything. It’s cold, maybe a little wet, and blustery. All I want to do is sit at the window bundled in a blanket drinking apple cider and slurping soup. These days are great for carving pumpkins, baking, and watching movies with friends and loved ones.
Apples and pomegranates
I love apples. I love apple flavored everything. Not so much pumpkin. I like to look at pumpkins, but apples are where it’s at for me. I enjoy apples year round, but I enjoy them more in the fall
My favorite fruit is the pomegranate and October is the beginning of pomegranate season. Not only is it my favorite color, but its so delicious the struggled to eat one is totally worth it. There is something therapeutic about getting the seeds out of the pomegranate. I fill a large bowl with water and empty the pomegranate into the water. The seeds sink to the bottom of the bowl and the membrane floats.
Moody colors
Pomegranate is my favorite shade of red, probably because its a moody color. I love moody colors. Especially forest greens, wine reds, and night sky blues. There’s something luxurious about dark moody colors.
Warm food and drinks
Back to those dark cool , spooky days; warm drinks and soups are perfect for when the weather cools down and I am housebound. Apple cider, hot cocoa, tea, and coffee are perfect for cooler days. It’s also not fall without soups. I love stews and rich soups. My favorite recipe right now is a beef stroganoff stew.

Indoor socializing
What is best paired with warm food and drinks? People. Surrounding myself with people I love and enjoy for a movie night, making a meal together, or just enjoying each others’ company is so cozy. I don’t like summer barbecues, because they feel obligatory and impersonal. But fall and winter get-togethers inside are incredibly heartwarming. I’m an introvert and small gatherings are my favorite way to socialize.
Romanticizing coffee shops and bakeries
Unlike other seasons, I really romanticize early morning visits to local coffee shops and bakeries in the fall. There’s nothing more romantic than bundling up and walking (or driving) to the nearest cafe for a warm drink and a tasty pastry. Extra points for meeting someone there. There’s a bakery and cafe in town that serves the best pastries. Kayla and I love to go there for breakfast on slow mornings.
The feeling of urgency to enjoy it all before Christmas engulfs everything
What comes with fall, especially in places with short transition seasons, is an urgency to pack things into your calendar. To check items off your “fall bucket list.” While not everyone feels this, I do. I feel immense motivation to do things with my weekends in the fall, more so than any other season. There are pumpkin patches to visit, fall photos to take, apples to pick, apple chips to make, and holidays to celebrate (whichever ones you do). There feels like there is so much to do and only two (or fewer in my case) months to do it.
With the looming threat of commercialized Christmas taking over stores and every tv and radio channel, there is urgency to appreciate and experience fall. I do so much more in October and November than I do any other months. I love it.
This year I actually bought and carved a pumpkin! And I did it with friends!
Making your home feel more homey
There is something warm and inviting about breaking out the blankets; simmering some witches brew on the stove; lighting some candles (or lamps in my case, because cats); and the smell of fresh, warm food in the kitchen. Spring and summer can’t compete with the cozy and homey feelings that come with fall and winter.
Those are the reasons I love fall, I will definitely do a post on winter when it comes around, since it is my favorite season.

Hey everyone, if you read this far I have an update! In the next few weeks, I am going to change when I post new content. This probably won’t affect you, but I thought you should know.
