I’ve been doing a lot recently and I decided to share an update on whats happening in my life. I have updates on my life, my habits, what I’m doing, and what I’m struggling with right now.
Whats been going on recently
I didn’t post a blog last week because I was in Portland with my parents, buying a car!
Sylvie and I packed up the Vibe and took a road trip to Portland. It wasn’t so bad. He was very talkative and active on the way up, but slept the entire way down. I’m proud of his travelling abilities, I will probably take him many more places now.
I got a 2014 Volkswagen Golf! I’m really happy with it and can’t wait to take it and Sylvie on adventures.
I had been driving a Pontiac Vibe that had been slowly chugging along. It had some problems and it was time to move on to a more reliable vehicle. Next step is to get some snow tires for the winter.
I’m also applying for summer 2019 internships. There aren’t many available right now that are in my field, I’m sure in the next few weeks there will be more. I missed my chance last year. I applied for about 15, but didn’t do it early enough. This year I’m starting early, since its my last chance if I want to graduate.
Update on my nail biting habit:
I’m still doing gel nails and I went through all of October without biting my nails! I went with a light grey to white brush stroke ombre for the spookiest month of the year.
For November, I went with wine red and a sparkly accent nail. My Instagram friends picked the color and I love it so much! I like every new color I get more than the last.
I also cut almonds entirely out of my diet and its been my best food decision I have made. I’ve struggled with gut health most of my adult life. I will probably do a post on that eventually. If anyone wants that sooner, let me know!
Update on my phone addiction:
I have been spending, on average, about 1-1.5 hours a day on my phone. That’s near my goal from my phone addiction posts! I find that I’m not spending a lot of time on Pinterest or Tumblr, my greatest time suckers. I think I spent more than 10 minutes on Pinterest for the first time in weeks this morning. I love Pinterst and its an incredibly useful planning and inspiration app and site, but spending hours a day on it is ridiculous.
I still struggle with taking my phone to bed and using it before bed and when I wake up. Although, I no longer use it as an alarm in the morning, so that’s a big step towards justifying not taking it to bed with me. Going to bed earlier has also contributed to not using my phone so much. Most of the time I spend on my phone is in the evening, so doing other things in the evening has taken up my time instead.
What I love right now
I’ve been going to bed around 7:30-8:00 pm every night. While I don’t need more than 10 hours of sleep, my cat has consistently woken me up around 4:00 am everyday since daylight savings. Neither of us have adjusted yet. I love being able to crawl in bed and just fall asleep and that’s what’s been happening this week. Before daylight savings, I was going to bed around 8:30-9:00.
My life has been a little too routine with very few breaks in the day. I love to come home around 5 (except I’ve been working on group projects this week, so its more like 6-6:30) take a shower, have some dinner, relax a bit, then go to bed. I don’t do a lot right now outside of work and school. I really only have the weekends for myself. That will change in a few weeks for winter break, then I will start the same schedule (almost exactly) back up again in January. I’m almost done with school, I can survive this.
What I’m reading
I just started the novel “Life After Life” by Kate Atkinson for a book club. Its the first fiction book I have read for leisure in a while. I’m not devouring it, its been slow so far. The story telling is good, its just a little tedious right off the bat. I hope to be able to squeeze more time in for that. I checked this one out from my local library.
I recently finished the “Little Book of Hygge” by Meik Wiking. Its been on my ‘to read’ list for a long time and I finally went and checked it out at the library. I enjoyed it thoroughly and I plan on buying it eventually.
What I’m watching
I’m not really watching anything consistently right now. I have been re watching past Game of Thrones seasons with Kayla, because she hasn’t seen them. I wanted someone to watch the final season with but surprisingly, GOT isn’t as popular in Southern Oregon as it is elsewhere.
I really want to watch the latest season of Riverdale, but have to wait until its out on Netflix (unless there is another way for someone who doesn’t have cable). I also would love to see the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. It looks right up my alley!
What I’m struggling with
I haven’t been drinking enough water at all this term. My backpack has a water bottle holder on the inside pocket and I have to think extra hard about pulling it out. In the past it was just there and I didn’t have to unzip my backpack to get it out (I rarely open my bag during the day) I really only drink water at work because my favorite water tumbler is there. I need to get back in the habit of having a water bottle on me at all times.
I’m struggling with being too busy again. I took up a lot more responsibility at my second job that I had declined to do last year. I didn’t really have a choice this year and we have been faced with too many challenges in such a short period of time.
I work at the student newspaper and this year we went through a leadership change and than had to replace most of our staff and get new equipment. We have hired a new business manager, a graphic designer, and two new staff writers. We also had to buy new computers. Right now, aside from writing. I feel like I have been doing a lot of training and teaching that I don’t have time for. It will all work out in the end, its just been a frustrating start.
So there it is, an update on my life. What have you been doing in your life recently that you feel like sharing? I want to know, write me a story!
